Project: Create a 3D sculpture of an abstract form
Materials: Videos: "Alexander Calder," "Calder Nonspace," "Alexander Calder's Outdoor Mobiles and Stables," and "K2 Abstract Paper Sculpture," glue, scissors, red and black construction paper. Objective: Learn about Alexander Calder and then create a simple red and black 3D paper sculpture that can stand or hang. Students should learn that Calder invented the mobile but also created abstract stables as well. Procedure: Watch the informative videos, "Alexander Calder," "Calder Nonspace," "Alexander Calder's Outdoor Mobiles and Stables," first to learn about Alexander Calder, 3D sculptures and find inspiration. Next watch the instructional video, "K2 Abstract Paper Sculpture," once and then watch it again as you work. Follow along and pause as needed. Try out as many different paper sculptures that you can. Be sure the sculpture can stand or be hung. Take a picture of your form. Post it along with a critique. Be sure to include your name and title your work on your post.
